Hello everyone, and welcome to our first ever apocalypse-themed EXO fest!! We’ll also be welcoming dystopian, and utopian fics as well! That’s right, it’s the very first of its kind, and you have the chance to participate!! We’ve been doing some asking and noticed that a lot of you are interested in reading and/or writing about the end of the world, and now our favourite genre is about to get some serious spotlight! Huzzah!
Though not fantasy, there’s a certain magic to these genres. It’s the ability of taking what we already know and twisting it into something else, something new. It’s turning our blue sky into gray with the smoke of pollution; it’s destroying our homes and land into an empty wasteland. Or, it could be reinventing our cities into an ideal outlook - a dystopia. Whether apocalyptic, post-apocalyptic, dystopian, or utopian, there’s something they all have in common - the fact that we are familiar with the settings, but not the circumstances. With these genres come a changed world and changed people, and we are hoping that you, writer, will show us what these worlds and these people look like.
These are not restricting genres!
There are many ways you can go about this. Whether it be zombie outbreak, virus, meteor, pollution, politics, your options are endless! What are your characters’ motives? Are they simply trying to survive? Are they alive trying to protect their loved ones? Are they purposeless, waiting for their penultimate end? Are they seeking to overturn the government and escape the toxic system? Maybe they meet someone that makes all the struggle worth it? Maybe they find the strength in themselves? You have worlds ready to be built from the ground up. Be as creative as you like!
Want to know what you need to do in order to participate? Then here are the rules!
● Absolutely no plagiarism will be tolerated.
Whether it’s taken from another work of fanfiction or a published work, you are not allowed to take words that are not yours.
● Noncon, dubcon, and pedophilia are strictly unallowed.
If a prompt is submitted with these themes, it will be deleted (with notice, of course). If a fic is submitted with these themes, we will inform the author and give them a chance to revise it if they are willing to. Otherwise, the fic will not be posted. HOWEVER, hinting at these themes are a-okay, as long as it is not explicit!
● You must be committed, or at least willing to communicate.
As writers ourselves, we understand the stress of meeting deadlines, so you can definitely count on us to be lenient with giving extensions, help, etc. However, we expect a response of some sort, so if you are unable to make a deadline, please inform us instead of leaving us hanging. This can be avoided by regularly checking your email and following us on twitter for updates on deadlines. You may email us, or DM us on our twitter.
● All genres are welcome!
We are definitely encouraging creativity! Do you have a zombie comedy/crack fic in mind? Or maybe a horror dystopian? Perhaps a slower paced slice-of-life taking place in the post apocalypse better suits your tastes? Whatever genre you have in mind - romance, action, mystery - don’t be afraid to prompt it/write it, as long as it has elements of the apocalypse/dystopia!
● All members are welcome!
Former members Kris, Luhan, and Tao will always be a part of EXO in our hearts, and therefore, they are definitely allowed here!
● Main pairings must be EXO/EXO only.
Side pairings are allowed to have EXO/another group member, but when it comes to the main pairing, this is an EXO fest, so we’d prefer the main pairing to be EXO/EXO.
● Check-in word count is 1,000. Final drafts must be 2,000 or greater.
● Please keep your prompt secret for the duration of the fest!
You may tell a beta or two what your prompt/fic is, but please remain hidden until reveals!
